Bienvenue!

Dear Archway Arete Families,

What an amazing year! It is hard to believe how quickly time has passed. It seems that it was just last month that we were learning, “Bonjour, je m’appelle…” I have been so impressed by how much we have covered this year. Their capacity to learn language at this age is incredible. It has been such a joy to see classes progress and grow in their abilities.

This year, we have covered a wide variety of topics. I have done my best to keep you up to date on what we were learning on my blog. I have tried to focus our vocabulary units on useful words and phrases that can be used regularly in everyday life at school and at home. Hopefully your child has been practicing outside of school. I have continued to encourage them to do so throughout the year. I have heard wonderful stories from many of you about these experiences. Thank you for sharing! Since immersion can seem intimidating at first, I have attempted to make classes as engaging as possible. We have had a lot of fun with the language.

With all of the progress that has been made this year, please encourage your student(s) to continue to practice over the summer. I have linked all of the songs and videos that we have used throughout the year on my blog. In addition, students should be bringing home numerous handouts and work that they have completed throughout the year. These are great learning and practice tools. Even simple things like changing the language to French on a favorite movie can help. The more exposure and practice with the language, the better.

Lastly, I want to let families know that I will not be returning to Archway Arete next year. My family and I are moving this summer. We are relocating to other side of the valley. It has been a difficult decision. This is such an amazing place to teach and learn! I want to thank you, the wonderful Archway Arete families, for all of your support and encouragement. I feel very blessed to have been able to work with so many of your children through my regular classes as well as the Running Club and French Clubs. It has been an unforgettable experience that I will always cherish.

Bonne continuation!

All classes will continue to learn and practice vocabulary for the body. Last week, we concentrated on recognizing the words and responding with a gesture or movement accompanied by "Voilà!".  In addition, classes practiced the pronunciation of each word.  This week,  students will complete a handout where they will label each of the body parts that we have learned.  We will also continue to practice "Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds" (Head, shoulders, knees and toes).

My fourth and fifth grade classes will begin learning additional adjectives to describe hair color and size.  Students in these classes are also going to memorize the fable "Le corbeau et le renard" by Jean de la Fontaine over the course of the next few months.  The fable will be introduced this week and they will begin learning the first two lines.
