Expression of the week:  C'est la vie. (That's life.)
Pronunciation: C'est la vie.

I cannot believe how quickly this school year has passed.  We are already in our final week!  I will see all classes Monday and Tuesday.  We will be going over our last quiz and then enjoying a review of all the vocabulary that we covered this year.  Well, we will not be able to review all of the words and phrases that we have learned.  However, we will use various songs that we learned in order to highlight many of the key units that we covered.

I will also see all of the B classes in each grade level on Wednesday.  On that day, we will do some additional review and practice the numbers through 100. Students are very comfortable with 1-30.  However, we have not had a lot of practice with 30-100.  So, it will be a great opportunity for some additional practice.

Expression of the week: Ce n'est pas grave.  (No problem/ It's not a big deal/Don't worry about it.)

We will wrap up our food unit this week.  Students will continue to work with complete sentences as they talk about what they eat for specific meals and at various times of day.  Classes are learning a poem/rap that will help them to memorize numerous vocabulary words.  Please see the lyrics below. We will practice through various review activities in preparation for a quiz at the end of week.  Following the quiz, we will begin a review of what we have covered this year.

Les trois repas de la journée

Pour le petit-déjeuner le matin,      

Des céréales, du lait et du pain.

Pour le déjeuner à l’école,

Un sandwich ou des pâtes dans un bol.

Pour le dîner le soir en famille,

De la viande, des légumes et du riz.

French expression of the week:  Félicitations!  (Congratulations!)

All classes will continue their study of food this week.  Students will participate in various individual, class, and group activities that will help them to practice the vocabulary.  As always, we will focus on using the vocabulary in context and in complete sentences.  The mealtime vocabulary will also be introduced this week.

Please encourage your students to share with you what they are learning and to use the vocabulary at home!  I have added a new song to the "Useful Links" section.  This song reviews various fruits in French as well as the expression, "J'aime...".

French expression of the week:  Bon appétit! (Enjoy your meal!)  In French culture, it is polite to use "Bon appétit!" whenever you see someone or a group that is eating or about to eat - whether you are eating together or not.

We will continue working on food vocabulary this week. As we reinforce the fruit and vegetables vocabulary from last week, we will begin learning additional foods.  Please reference the list below for the additional words.

We wrapped up our clothing unit last week.  Students that missed the unit quiz will make it up this week.  In addition, we will begin learning our first section of food vocabulary - fruits and vegetables.  We will begin the unit by watching a short video showing some individuals in France shopping at an outdoor market (un marché) and at a grocery store (un supermarché).  We will discuss the French words they recognized and the cultural differences that they observed.  I have linked the video (Aller au marché) under the "Useful links" section on the right.

Bonjour! I hope that many of you are planning to attend the Soirée de Beauté this Wednesday evening.

Grades K-2   6:00 - 7:00
Grades 3-5    7:30 - 8:30

This week we will continue to work with the clothing vocabulary that was introduced last week.  Students will participate in various activities where they will have opportunities to practice with the words and phrases that we are memorizing.  We will use the classic French children's song "Promenons-nous dans les bois" to practice as well.  You will find a link to the video under "Useful Links".  Students will take a quiz on this vocabulary next week.  Please use the list on last week's post to encourage them to practice and share with you what they are learning.
