Bienvenue!

Dear Archway Arete Families,

What an amazing year! It is hard to believe how quickly time has passed. It seems that it was just last month that we were learning, “Bonjour, je m’appelle…” I have been so impressed by how much we have covered this year. Their capacity to learn language at this age is incredible. It has been such a joy to see classes progress and grow in their abilities.

This year, we have covered a wide variety of topics. I have done my best to keep you up to date on what we were learning on my blog. I have tried to focus our vocabulary units on useful words and phrases that can be used regularly in everyday life at school and at home. Hopefully your child has been practicing outside of school. I have continued to encourage them to do so throughout the year. I have heard wonderful stories from many of you about these experiences. Thank you for sharing! Since immersion can seem intimidating at first, I have attempted to make classes as engaging as possible. We have had a lot of fun with the language.

With all of the progress that has been made this year, please encourage your student(s) to continue to practice over the summer. I have linked all of the songs and videos that we have used throughout the year on my blog. In addition, students should be bringing home numerous handouts and work that they have completed throughout the year. These are great learning and practice tools. Even simple things like changing the language to French on a favorite movie can help. The more exposure and practice with the language, the better.

Lastly, I want to let families know that I will not be returning to Archway Arete next year. My family and I are moving this summer. We are relocating to other side of the valley. It has been a difficult decision. This is such an amazing place to teach and learn! I want to thank you, the wonderful Archway Arete families, for all of your support and encouragement. I feel very blessed to have been able to work with so many of your children through my regular classes as well as the Running Club and French Clubs. It has been an unforgettable experience that I will always cherish.

Bonne continuation!

La semaine de lundi, le 3 novembre

Les mots du jour
11/3

Le soleil
The sun
La lune
The moon
Une fleur
A flower
Une montagne
A mountain
Il fait beau
It’s a beautiful day

My 4th and 5th grade classes will present their calendars this week.  We have used this project to combine our study of the numbers (1-30), the colors, the days of the week, the months, the seasons and a few expressions to describe weather.  Some classes may have time at the end of the week to begin working on the next unit - body parts.

My 2nd and 3rd grade classes will begin a calendar project on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Any that finish will present their calendars on Thursday and Friday.  However, most will probably need that day to finish and prepare to present the following week.

We will continue looking at the geography of France during our Wednesday cultural lesson this month.  In addition, we will learn about four of the most famous sites in Paris - la Tour Eiffel, l'Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame de Paris and le Musée du Louvre.
